2nd Annual African Boating Conference Hits Cape Town

This year’s 2nd Annual African Boating Conference takes place on the 15th and 16th of April at the Crystal Towers Hotel in Century City, Cape Town. Following on from the success of last year’s event, 2010’s incarnation offers a host of fantastic and dynamic guest speakers, who are set to address a wide range of topics geared to be informative, newsworthy and provide assistance to your business endeavours.

The line-up and programme of events is as follows:

Thursday 15 April, 2010:

09:30 – 10:00: Arrival, Tea & Registration

10:00 – 11:00 Conference Room 1: Join Kuba Mizewski from First African Paints and Waste Plan CEO, Bertie Lourens, for a fantastic seminar on greening practices, focusing on the minimisation of your carbon footprint in a world now largely focused on all things ‘green’, and the possible impact on future sales as a result.

10:00 – 11:00 Conference Room 2: Stonewall+, one of Cape Town’s top digital marketing agencies, will be hosting a seminar illustrating the phenomenal opportunity that online marketing provides for your business. Find out how to use this forum to maximise your communication with customers, both existing and potential, and drive your business to the next level.

11:00 – 11:30 Mid Morning Break

11:30 – 13:00 Conference Room 1: Lesley Africa, representative for PUM in South Africa, presents a seminar, detailing how your small or medium size company can access the resources of PUM senior experts free of charge.  PUM, based in the Netherlands, has experts in every conceivable field. They are driven by enthusiasm, the desire to contribute and the challenge of helping local small and medium sized businesses grow.  Lesley will present the myriad of opportunities offered by PUM, including consultations, training, seminars, opportunities for experts to visit your business or you to visit the Netherlands.  This session will be followed by ten minutes with each of the training providers from False Bay College Boat Building Academy.

11:30 – 13:00 Conference Room 2: SABBEX Exco Board Meeting

13:00 – 14:00: LUNCH

14:00 – 15:00 Conference Room 1: Laura Evans has been integral in the development and delivery of the TAG training programme. She is currently busy with her Industrial Psychology Masters thesis, using the Tag training programme as the base line for her study. Laura is passionate about developing people and she believes the boat building industry is an exciting, challenging and dynamic place for skills interventions that make a difference to people’s lives. Laura will be presenting some of her findings and demonstrating how they can be applied to the boatbuilding industry in general. This will be followed by a presentation by Vanessa Davidson from CTBi, who will present an overview of skills development and touch on issues such as goal development and transformation.

Friday 16 April, 2010:

08:00 – 08:30: Coffee/Tea & Registration

08:30 – 09:30 Conference Room 1: Steve Woohall of Scott Bader and Anthony Harris of NCS Resins will present a fascinating seminar on new technological developments within the industry and the usefulness thereof to local boatbuilders.

08:30 – 09:30 Conference Room 2: Selma Schwartz and Cynthia Kalimashe from National Ports Authority will provide an informative talk centering around the levying of cargo dues on all vessels exported from Cape Town, and the use of the abnormal gate in the harbour.

09:30 – 10:00: Mid Morning Break

10:00 – 11:00 Conference Room 1: World renowned naval architect, Alex Simonis, will present a fascinating seminar on new building and design trends. This looks to be a fascinating insight into the latest and greatest cutting-edge technologies available to boatbuilders.

10:00 – 11:00 Conference Room 2: CTBi Exco Board Meeting

11:30 – 13:00 Conference Room 1: Anthony Harris, Chairman of PCISA (Plastic Composites Industry South Africa) will give a summary on the work of the Composites Industry Institute, new developments in the industry and how we can better engage each other across all our sectors as suppliers, customers, training providers, research institutes. This will be followed by a presentation by Eugene Erfort of the Adaptronic Advanced Manufacturing Technology Laboratory.

11:30 – 13:00 Conference Room 2: CTBi AGM

13:00 – 14:00: LUNCH

14:00 – 15:00 Conference Room 1: Peter Cheales, founder of the groundbreaking ‘Hello Peter’ customer feedback website, will present an hour long seminar on the vital importance of customer service, feedback and communication. Peter has a lengthy and illustrious history in the customer service industry and has dealt with businesses from every sector of the economy. He offers intriguing insights and tips for businesses – this talk should NOT be missed!

15:00 – 15:30: Free Afternoon

19:00: South African Boating Awards Dinner
